2023 has been an eventful year for the machined cast iron supplier KOCKUMS MASKIN in Kallinge, Sweden. Johan Brengesjö was appointed as the new Managing Director in October, while the company's management and administrative staff moved from the former headquarters to a brand-new office building in close connection to the production facilities to have the entire operation more integrated.
KOCKUMS MASKIN, which dates back to 1742 and is today one of the leading producers of machined castings in Scandinavia, has stood firm in the wake of the recession that has begun to spread in parts of the world. Sales in 2023 for KOCKUMS MASKIN amounted to EUR 18.9 million, compared to EUR 16.3 million in 2022. This corresponds to an increase in sales of around 16 percent. Pre-tax profit in 2023 amounted to EUR 380,000 which is more than double of the 2022 profit of EUR 155,000.
- We have come out of 2023 well and delivered a satisfactory result that we can be proud of. The increase in both revenue and profit compared to 2022 is due to increased market focus, optimized processes and increase of productivity, says Johan Brengesjö, Managing Director of KOCKUMS MASKIN.
In 2023, a new strategy and a new visual corporate identity for the foundry group BIRN Group, of which KOCKUMS MASKIN is a part, was launched. BIRN Group is one of Northern Europe's largest foundry groups and includes the three Danish companies BIRN in Holstebro, TASSO in Odense and ULDALL in Vejen as well as BIRN Germany in Germany, TASSO BERNAREGGI in Italy and KOCKUMS MASKIN in Sweden. The new group strategy increases cooperation across the group's companies.
- Our collaboration across the group and in different functions within the companies has intensified. We work together as one team across the group and subsidiaries, and over the past year we have optimized our collaboration on common customers and markets, says BIRN Group CEO Claus Beier.
BIRN Group and KOCKUMS MASKIN notice an increased environmental awareness among their customers. For the second year in a row, BIRN Group has therefore prepared a sustainability report that provides a comprehensive overview of where the group stands in terms of climate, environmental, social and government initiatives to support the upcoming EU sustainability reporting requirements.
- Within KOCKUMS MASKIN and the BIRN Group, we are doing our best to drive the business in a more sustainable direction. With our market position and customers in various segments, we note a positive and increasing demand for more sustainable cast iron solutions, which are among others requested for electrified vehicles, says Johan Brengesjö.
