BIRN Group, of which KOCKUMS MASKIN is a part, has just published its 2025 sustainability report. Although the group is still not subject to the EU’s sustainability reporting requirements, BIRN Group has once again chosen to document and highlight its sustainability efforts to customers, partners, and employees.
For BIRN Group—and thus also for KOCKUMS MASKIN—the sustainability report is not just about reporting. As an international foundry group, BIRN Group is increasingly finding that customers are demanding documentation of climate impact, resource consumption, and responsible production throughout the value chain. That is why sustainability has become an integral part of how the group conducts its business.
- At KOCKUMS, we appreciate being a part of the group sustainability reporting and contributing to the common environmental and social responsibility. Optimized resource consumption, structured waste management, and recruiting the right workforce has been key areas for us, both in 2025 and forward, says Johan Brengesjö, Managing Director at KOCKUMS MASKIN.
A key focus area for BIRN Group in 2025 has been the work on Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), which provides more precise documentation of the carbon footprint at the product level. This gives customers a better basis for their own climate calculations while also supporting increasing demands for transparency in the industry.
- Although we are not yet subject to the new EU requirements for sustainability reporting, we find that our work on documentation and transparency creates value for our customers. We see a growing need for insight into areas such as climate footprint and material consumption, and therefore we want to continue to highlight our efforts and results through a comprehensive sustainability report, says Flemming Juel Jensen, Group CEO at BIRN Group.
The report also describes how BIRN Group works strategically with sustainability within the areas of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG). This work is based, among other things, on the group’s materiality analysis, which identifies the areas where BIRN Group has the greatest impact and where external demands simultaneously have the greatest significance for the business.
In the areas of climate and the environment, the primary focus is on energy consumption and the volume of production waste, while the key focus in the social area is on safety, employee turnover, and age distribution. In the area of corporate governance, attention is directed toward, among other things, cybersecurity and responsible supplier relationships.
The sustainability report shows that, as a group, we are fulfilling our commitment to working in a structured manner to reduce our climate footprint, strengthen the organization, and ensure responsible management. This is a positive development that we look forward to continuing.
