A focused effort to enhance employee well-being has delivered clear results at the cast iron supplier KOCKUMS MASKIN in Kallinge, according to the company’s latest employee survey. Improved communication, culture building and daily management structure, and improvement of working environment are among the main efforts in growing both job satisfaction and loyalty among employees.
It's been a year full of improvements at KOCKUMS MASKIN in Kallinge. An anonymous employee survey shows a marked improvement in employees’ perception of corporate culture, leadership, values, reputation and working conditions. The survey, which is conducted annually, shows an increase of +10 points on a 100-point scale compared to the previous year. The results in both job satisfaction and loyalty at KOCKUMS MASKIN now rank respectively 73 and 80 points, which is above the international average for similar businesses according to the GELx model from Ennova.
- The result is a clear sign that we’re moving in the right direction.
For us, it’s crucial that change takes place together with the employees – and it’s gratifying to see that our joint work is now having an impact, says Managing Director Johan Brengesjö.
He took up the position as Managing Director at KOCKUMS MASKIN in 2023 and embarked on a change journey based on a clear turnaround strategy.
- Real progress starts with people. If we don’t take care of our employees – their wellbeing, their sense of purpose, their everyday experience – we can’t expect the company to grow in a meaningful way. That’s why culture is at the heart of how we move forward. And to be honest, the results from previous years’ employee satisfaction surveys were not impressive. But it gave us a clear view of what we needed to work on, and this has been the starting point for the improvements, explains Johan Brengesjö as he continues:
- We were aware that the image of KOCKUMS risked getting stuck in history – shaped by closures and changes causing concern. Through a clear communication strategy, we’ve started to build a new, more forward-looking picture of where we’re going. We talk about the progress we’re making, our investments in continued growth, but not least our commitment to corporate culture.
A shared direction builds culture
At a more specific level, the daily management, structure and clarity have been improved.
- We’ve introduced new routines for our daily morning meetings at department level – a simple but powerful way to raise awareness of our goals, highlight opportunities for improvement and address deviations directly where they occur. It has also given our employees a better understanding of the impact of their work on the bigger picture, says Johan Brengesjö.
To ensure that continuous improvement becomes an integrated part of the company culture, a structured digital workflow has been introduced. Every initiative is now followed up systematically – making responsibilities, progress and results visible to the organization. Involving employees is key to building genuine engagement.
- To create real impact, improvements need both structure and focus, by making our progress transparent and focusing on learning in every step, we’re building both momentum and engagement, explains Johan Brengesjö.
The Managing Director has worked closely with both the management team and employees at KOCKUMS to drive lasting improvements in culture and work environment. He now sees a company more united – and ready to keep moving forward:
- Real change happens when people believe in where we’re going – and see how they’re part of it. We’ve taken important steps, and the results speak for themselves. But this is just the beginning and we’re in it for the long run.
