Few people have worked in as many different areas of the Swedish machined castings manufacturer KOCKUMS MASKIN as Mikael Nilsson. Starting in the foundry’s production department, he has worked his way through quality control, project management, logistics, and sales and purchasing, which will be his last and final position before retirement.

According to Mikael Nilsson, it's a very special feeling to walk into an iron foundry. The melting area with glowing, hot, orange liquid iron. Pouring the liquid iron into the casting molds. And to see the finished iron castings coming off the production line and being added to the final product.

KOCKUMS MASKIN, one of Scandinavia’s leading manufacturers of machined castings, located in Kallinge in southeastern Sweden, has been Mikael Nilsson’s workplace for 42 years. The opportunity to work with many different tasks and areas within the foundry has been one of the main reasons for his long tenure with the company:

_24A4694 web- In an iron foundry you get to follow the whole process from the early stages of designing the cast iron parts, through production, to the final result when the component is installed in the machine or truck. I really like this way of working with a complete production chain on site, says Mikael Nilsson, Purchasing Manager at KOCKUMS MASKIN, as he continues:

- But the best thing about working at KOCKUMS MASKIN is all the great people who work there. You are never alone, and we always find good solutions together. Then there are all our customers and suppliers, with whom we have long-standing relationships. It’s really a pleasure to help develop the right solutions for the customers and to maintain a trustful cooperation with the suppliers. I really feel that I’ve had the opportunity to develop myself, my mind, and my professional skills within the company.

Mikael Nilsson started his career at KOCKUMS MASKIN in 1978 in the production department. With only a few years away from the company he has worked in the foundry in various positions such as quality control, project management, logistics, sales, and purchasing for a total of 42 years. Since 2000, KOCKUMS MASKIN has been a part of the BIRN Group, one of the largest foundry groups in Northern Europe.

- The cooperation with the BIRN Group and with the other foundries within the group is, in my opinion, very positive. We have a great connection between our companies, and we help and support each other across countries. The focus on sustainability is becoming more and more important from all sides, and it’s a great advantage to be a part of a group that prioritizes this work, says Mikael Nilsson.

- Mikael’s positive drive and outstanding dedication have been an invaluable contribution to the company. With his vast experience and extensive network, Mikael has always maintained a strong customer focus, which is a key factor in success and a brilliant, inspiring example for our continued journey forward. Mikael has also been greatly appreciated by colleagues, customers, and suppliers in his various roles. We wish Mikael all the best for the future and hope that he enjoys new adventures and some well-deserved rest.
